I hate to contradict the wonderful Miriam Scahill, but I think Labasheeda is in Killofin Civil Parish. It lies in the townland of Cullenagh which is in Killofin http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... llofin.htm

Re: Howard, McInerney and Hallinan [Toovahera]
Hi Cathy, Toovahera is an area in North Clare, north east of Lisdoonvarna village. See http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/maps/gmap/index.html#M5C53.0393!-9.24725Z15R1. I searched in the surrounding townlands for your family names, and found a Murty and John McInerney in Ballyconnoe South, Kil...

Re: Tierney - cemetery in Luogh
The nearest graveyard is the old one at Killilagh church, Doolin, and the newer graveyard at nearby Doolin church. These are in the same parish as Luogh. To the south of Luogh, St Bridget's graveyard is close, but in a different parish.

Re: Some articles from The Other Clare now online
Hi Sheila, no, the Petworth House rental mentioned by Ciaran Ó Murchadha isn't held in the Local Studies Centre in Ennis. The microfilms there cover the extensive Clare and other estates of Lord Egremont. There's an excellent list of the documents contained on the films by Teresa Shoosmith on the Cl...

Re: Family Pews
Pews were often sponsered by individuals or families when a new church was being built. In many churches the seats have brass plates on them giving the sponser's name. Usually, the seats would have been for general use rather than for the use of the sponsers. I've never heard of a seat being 'passed...

Petworth House Rental
I see that the West Sussex Records office has indexed a portion of the Petworth House Collection and made it available online. It's the first cottier rental for the Wyndham estates in Co. Clare, Limerick and Tipperary, made in 1848 (PHA 4548). See http://tinyurl.com/ykakzlu and scroll down for the l...

Re: Dorothea Lange's photos of Clare people and places
I managed to contact Dierde Lynch last year to enquire about getting copies of the 'Photos to Send' DVD. She was surprised and horrified to hear that it was available on DVD as she has nothing to do with it. It seems that the DVD is a pirate which explains why it's so difficult to track one down. Sa...

Re: Tarsnane/Tarsenane/Tarsone Family
I have found what looks like a sister of Margaret in the Census search forms on the library website. See http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/census_search_forms/surname_nw.htm and scroll down to Tarsnane. Kate Howe nee Tarsnane, daughter of Mat Tarsnane and Biddy O'Brien was applying ...

Re: Use of maiden name instead of married name in 1800s?
I notice in some of the Graveyard Transcription on the library website (http://foto.clarelibrary.ie/fotoweb/Grid.fwx?archiveId=5001) that, occasionally, women who died in the 1800s give their married name as their alias, rather than their own name, e.g. this one in Killone Abbey Graveyard: IHS | Ben...

Re: Did/does a place called Moohan exist?
Hello Dave, There is a townland called Mooghaun North near Newmarket-on-Fergus in Tomfinlough Parish. In 1901 the census shows a family of Dohertys living there, including a Charlotte, aged 80. See pg http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/1901census/newmarket_ded_mooghaun_north41_14.htm...

Hi Paddy,
The Landed Estates site is being expanded beyond Connaught. I believe the Clare material will be online in a year or so.
