Re: Coolreigh Townland

Almost certainly. Coolreigh is in the parish of Kilnoe which is adjacent to the parish of Tomgraney (see parish maps at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... es_map.htm). Coolreigh and Coolreagh sound identical when spoken (e.g. to a registry clerk).

Blondie, It's difficult to give a clear answer without knowing what you have looked for online, what you have found and what your objectives are. However, you might like to check out the entry about the Clare Library Local Studies Centre at http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1548 I'...

Re: Is the EPPI website broken?

In a post yesterday at http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtop ... f=1&t=6841 Murf flagged that the EPPI website, which I had long given up for dead, is alive and kicking again. I did a couple of searches and found what I was looking for.

Re: Rath-Kilnaboy Register: an eloquent testimony

There are lots of books on the Great Famine, of course, but one that I found particularly evocative is Sable Wings over the Land by Ciarán Ó Murchadha (Clasp Press, ISBN 1 900545 05 5).

Thanks for posting this, Sharon. Thought-provoking in a number of respects ("Leave notes behind - someone might read them"; "Never give up"; "Go to the top for a decision"; "Think you'll be forgotten ? Don't be too sure"; "Wall things up so that they will be found many years later"; etc. etc.). And ...

Katherine McNamara 1866-1924 of Annaghneal, Kilnoe parish

Hi Sheila, That "10th Jan. 1845: Rebecca of John Arthur and Mary Verlin; sponsors: John Verlin, Eliza Arthur." caught my eye as my family is related to the Verlins in the 19th century. I put together some notes on the Verlin families at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/don_tran/fam...

Re: common land (labelled cotteen in the Down Survey maps)

Thanks Sheila and Kerry for raising this topic. It caught my eye particularly because I had been interested in the Clare townland of Moyrhee Commons which, I had been told, was a place where anyone could settle and which therefore became a haven for the dispossessed and low-income families. The geog...

Re: 19th C Illnesses~Marasmus (of the Brain)~Mental Retardat

Then, I got to thinking about his "cause of death" while in the Ennis Lunatic Asylum ~ "marasmus of the brain"...... I learned that "marasmus" is defined as "malnutrition" but no medical article that I have read applies "marasmus" specifically to the brain ...... just the body and usually the patie...
