Re: Tithe Applotment Books Webpage at National Archives

RE: Kilmurry-Ibrickane Parish Tithe 1826 and 1834 The 4th June 1826 Tithe Applotment Book for Kilmurry-Ibrickane Parish has 32 townlands listed on 71 pages. The record is well preserved and the hand writing is beautiful. Under some of the townlands there are local district names that are not “offici...

Re: Arranged Marriages in Ireland

Thank you for your comments. I would be surprised that the Bishop was involved with each marriage dispensation. There are literally a few dispensations noted each month especially after 1870. I can’t imagine the Bishop having the time to investigate each family genealogy. The local priest that knew ...

Arranged Marriages in Ireland

Arranged Marriages in Ireland I am interested in comments, information or references to the custom of arranged marriages in Ireland, particularly in the West of Ireland. Over the past few years I have studied the marriage register of the Kilmurry-Ibrickane Parish in County Clare starting in 1839. T...

Re: Corry from Clounlaheen

Here you go,

If you get the civil record, I would be interested in Michael's townland and father's name.

I did not find any children born of this marriage in the parish.

29 Jan 1870
Michael Egan & Margaret Corry
Witnesses: James Corry & John Ryan
Priest: P. Moran

Re: Two male witnesses at Wedding

Daren, I have look at many Irish marriage records civil and church and have found two males listed as witnesses. I have noticed in a few cases that the witnesses names were the same names as the father's of the Bride and Groom. I don't know if this is just a coincidence. With such large families bro...

Re: Patrick O'Brien & Brigid O'B (nee Sexton) to Aust. 1857

John, What is your source that the O'Brien and Sexton marriage is from Scarriff? Can you locate the family in the Griffith Valuation? I have a few O'Brien and Sexton families in my records from the Kilmurry-Ibrickane Parish. This is a difficult time period to differentiate between O'Brien families a...

Re: HAREN from Inagh/Milltown Malbay clare

I checked the baptism records for children of John and Honora Haren in the Miltown Malbay and Kilmurry-Ibrickane Parish. There are not any families registered with the parents names of John and Honora Haren.

Death of a Centurian Elmira NY Morning Telegram 1888

Death of a Centurian I found this notice of Margaret Fox McMahon formerly of Kilmurry, County Clare, Ireland. She was living in Elmira, Chemung County, New York in 1888 when she died at 102 years. Elmira, New York was the new home for many new Irish immigrants from County Clare. Margaret was married...

Re: james casey and elizabeth mary o'dwyer.

Ann, I checked the Miltown Malbay Parish (Kilfarboy) register for James Casey and Elizabeth O’Dwyer and did not find any records. There are only a few Casey families in the Miltown Malbay Parish. The neighboring Parish of Kilmurry-Ibrickane (Mullagh) has a large number of Casey families. There is on...
