Re: Looking for AUSTIN family FROM Kilrush co 'Clare
I was in Kilfearagh Cemetery outside Kilkee today and transcribed the following inscriptions from two separate stones on the Austin grave there: 1. Erected by Mrs Austin Doonaghboy [sic] in memory of her beloved husband Tom Austin who died June 19th 1919 aged 74 years R.I.P. 2. In loving memory of T...

Members of this forum may be interested in this new group, "an independent, voluntary group of mainly young people from across County Clare, who have come together in an attempt to rescue the remaining memories that connect us to an older and fading way of life in Clare." Re: The Boree Log at Lisseycasey
I too have a copy of "Around the Boree Log" on my shelves - a 1980 gift to my late father from a second cousin returning from Sydney to the Irish homeland of his grandfather. The present Boree Log in Lissycasey is a public house (bar) on the main road between Ennis and Kilrush. A Google search sugge...

Re: Looking for AUSTIN family FROM Kilrush co 'Clare
I cannot find any mention of Paddy Austin's death in the Clare FM obituaries at http://www.clare.fm/obituaries; searching that site for austin (http://www.clare.fm/search/node/austin) produces only one hit, but I suspect that the archive goes back only to the latest redesign of the site in April thi...

Re: Kelly of Clare, with help from Paddy Waldron
In Surnames of Ireland, MacLysaght notes under Queally (Ó Caollaidhe) that the `confusion which has arisen between Queally, Keally, Keeley, Kiely, etc. is discussed in' his other book, More Irish Families. I don't have my own copy of the latter book, but he does not list Kelly among the names which ...

Re: Inheritances, bequests by Clare emigrants to U.S., Australia
My greatgrandfather John McNamara of Moveen, parish of Moyarta, co. Clare was one of the numerous heirs to the so-called Talty Millions, the estate (actually worth only in the low six figures) of his first cousin T J Talty (first name variously rendered Theodore/Thadeus/Thady/Timothy). T J was proba...

Thanks a million for that one, Sharon. I wonder is this the Palmer Hotel in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palmer_House ? Or is there another one in New York? There is an advertisement in the 1896 edition of The Standard Guide: St. Augustine, East Coast, Indian River and Lake Worth by Charle...

Re: Kelly-Kenny obituary online in NY newspaper 1914
It is interesting to see how obituaries can vary with respect to such basic details as the place of death! In London, an obituary in The Times (Monday, Dec 28, 1914; pg. 9; Issue 40736; col C) entitled 'Death Of General Kelly-Kenny. South African War Services' says: 'We regret to announce the death ...

In my family, they were called `in memoriam cards'. They were either kept in empty chocolate boxes or inserted between the pages of prayer books/missals.

Other Clare journals (pun intended)
I just had reason to refer yet again to Thaddeus Breen's excellent website cited above. From http://www.xs4all.nl/~tbreen/journals.html one can find tables of contents for not only The Other Clare but also three other Clare-related journals:

Sliabh Aughty
North Munster Antiquarian Journal
