Re: Feb 1881 reached, online O'Callaghan's Mills database

Sharon the amount of work involved in what you have done is above and beyond! I just hope your eyesight doesn't suffer as a result. I had a look through the Baptismal records for ARKINS, which as you know I'm interested in. I also found HARKINS entries which to me appear to be the same families, by ...

Re: Industrial Ennis

The British Newspaper Archive (Subscription service) has several articles on Bannatyne's of Ennis. (I just tried Bannatyne and Ennis in the search fields). June 1842 Mob attacks Bannatyne's Mill. Police open fire. 2 dead, 17 wounded. (Also referred to as the Ennis Massacre in some editions). Feb 188...

Re: Clare Past Forum Emigration List Project (1892-1924)

Hi Paddy, Thanks for West Clare emigrants. I'm currently compiling Killard parish so have added your contributions. Unlike any of the other parishes I've looked at for Clare I'm finding a very high percentage of Killard Parish emigrants heading for Jersey City addresses. If anyone knows of a particu...

Wills of Irish serving in British Army 1914 - 1917

I've just seen an article about this freely searchable database at the Irish National Archives for Irishmen serving in the British Army in World War One. So far they've released 1914 - 1917. The rest to follow soon. 9000 wills in total, many handwritten on the front line. They weren't compulsory so ...

Re: Shooting of Edward (Edmond) Burke 08-16-1922

Found 2 entries on the Ellis Island website which might be of interest: List of US Citizens on board the SS Republic which sailed from Cobh, Ireland on the 24th September 1924 and arrived in New York on 3rd October 1924. Edward Burke, aged 52 yrs, Married, US Naturalised at Hudson County Court, N.J....

Re: Biddy EARLY (Wise Woman of Clare)

This may or may not be of interest, but I came across the following: • Bay of Plenty Times (New Zealand) – 27th January 1897 (From PAPERSPAST website) IRISH WITCHES The present century has been signalised in Ireland by the misdeeds of two famous witches, of these was Biddy Early, who departed this l...

Graveyard decoration in Clonlea Graveyard, Kilkishen

Whilst in Clonlea Graveyard, Kilkishen recently, I noticed at least 3 graves, which had a footing of turf neatly placed either on the grave or by the headstone. I was unable to find anyone who had heard of this custom before or what it signifies. (Apart from the usual suggestions of "an old sod", et...

Re: A comprehensive listing of Clare emigrants

Paddy, I've gone through the original list I submitted to Clare Library. I started working from current areas of interest to me, not from a Civil Parish list, which is why I've got a bit muddled. I've added all the ones I've already done. Apologies to Pam as I've covered Clonrush, Whitegate and Moun...

Re: A comprehensive listing of Clare emigrants

Hi again Paddy, Re Parish names If you look on the Library Website for Church Records, it lists Church of Ireland parishes, Roman Catholic parishes and Civil parishes. So for Sixmilebridge which isn't on the Civil Parish list. Looking for Sixmilebridge I found it is part of Kilfinaghty C.of I. Paris...

Re: A comprehensive listing of Clare emigrants

Clare Emigrants Blank database.xls Hi Paddy, Thanks for putting in thinking time to establishing this project. I'd suggest that the Civil Parish list seems fine, as when I tried it, it leads to the Library page with all its listings for that Civil parish. I also think its preferable to the RC paris...

Re: A comprehensive listing of Clare emigrants

Firstly because my family history interests centre in and around Feakle, I’ve already searched for and submitted emigration information on: Bodyke, Broadford, Clonrush, Feakle (includes Faha, Flagmount and Killanena), Mountshannon, O’Callaghans Mills, Ogonnelloe, Scariff, Sixmilebridge, Tuamgraney, ...

Re: A comprehensive listing of Clare emigrants

Hi Paddy, Sorry to be late in replying. Minus 6 degrees and 6 inches of snow at present. I live on the sunny south coast of England. Wow, what have we triggered off! Most of the data I've trawled through comes via Ancestry.com. I'll make a list of the various databases I've gone through and get back...
