Re: Researching Family of Andrew Donnellan and Mary Connole

Hello Phil, Just a very quick thought. There is always the possibility that your ancestor(s) married more than once, which was not uncommon given high rates of maternal mortality during the 19th century. The Clune family were close neighbours of the Donnellans in Gortaficka - this might also explain...

Re: Researching Family of Andrew Donnellan and Mary Connole

Hello Phil, Some further Donnellan references. 1.The Petty Sessions cases - available in findmypast.ie - can often provide useful information. In 1856, John Donlan, Drumumna, Herdsman, was a complainant against Pat Hehir, Drumumna, cattle jobber, regarding the killing of a lamb, the property of Nicho...

Re: Researching Family of Andrew Donnellan and Mary Connole

Hello Phil, I went back to some old notes I had kept of the Valuation Records for parts of Crusheen (they tracked property and land occupation post Griffith's valuation up to c. 1970s). There were in fact two Donnellan families close to my Drumumna O'Connor family BUT they were first cousins. One (t...

Re: Researching Family of Andrew Donnellan and Mary Connole

Hello,

I have sent a few messages in recent days but because of a computer fault these have not gone through. This is a test to see if this one gets through and if so, will later today try and resume,

Re: Researching Family of Andrew Donnellan and Mary Connole

Hi Folks, Just a few points. Sheila, the licences I was referring to were dog licences - not gun licences. While researching someone else yesterday, I came across Michael Donlon of Gurtnamearacaun holding a dog licence in 1874. The fact is there are many spellings for this name as there are for othe...

Re: Researching Family of Andrew Donnellan and Mary Connole

Hello again Phil, I have access to the site findmypast.ie, which contains a vast amount of Irish records. Andrew Donnellan is shown in the Electoral Registers during the period 1885 to 1903 living at Gurthaficka (spelling of this townland varies frequently). There are two entries for 1885. Firstly, ...

Re: Researching Family of Andrew Donnellan and Mary Connole

Hello Murf, I have just checked the online Eircom telephone directory to see if there is a phone number for them and there isn't. They could be ex directory. There would be no need for an eircode to find them by normal post. Simply Donnellan family, Gortaficca, Crusheen, County Clare. The postman wo...

Re: Researching Family of Andrew Donnellan and Mary Connole

Hello Phil, The Donnellan family were the next door neighbours of my Grandmother's family (O'Connor/Connors) in Crusheen, and were very close. I visited them several times over the years with my father Joe Carroll, who died in 1999. Joe went to live in Dublin c.1934. The O'Connor baptism records sta...

Re: counihan family limerick

Hello Sheila, My Grandmother Delia O'Connor/ Carroll worked as a dispensary nurse and midwife in Ennis and at times Kilrush from sometime in the 1920s to 1940 and spoke frequently about Dr. Counihan, her boss and mentor (following her early widowhood). She always spoke of him warmly and had many sto...

Re: Michael G. Considine and Daniel O'Connell

Hello Sheila again, More records! I had tried to do the tithes awhile back with no success but have found them now, the problem being the site spelling Drumcliffe incorrectly. The tithe dates are 1825 and 1833 but pages are not always clear about the relevant date. Patrick Considine Lifford sharing ...

Re: Michael G. Considine and Daniel O'Connell

Thanks Sheila. Yes there's a lot to mull over. I agree instinctively that Michael G. must have lived in Brewery Lane where his nephew is shown. It is so near Lifford and Church St. that one wonders is he connected to the Lifford group of Considines, seemingly there for a long time. We can continue t...

Re: Michael G. Considine and Daniel O'Connell

Thanks Sheila, That's good that it was of some use and you have filled me in now on the second Michael Considine. The Electoral Registers might be even more useful, which I will get to asap. It's easy to "adopt" this family or group of families - they are full of surprises! It also shines a light on...

Re: Michael G. Considine and Daniel O'Connell

Hello again Sheila, As indicated in my last email, I have now followed up my old contacts, but did not get anywhere due to a combination of their old age and illness, death in one case and so on. I will continue to pursue but it becomes more difficult with the passage of time, and also with the pass...
