BIRTHS
At Emmadale, Six-mile-bridge, county Clare, the lady of John Ormsby Stenson, Esq. of a daughter.
Another piece of the puzzle. I am guessing that Emmadale is the same place as Emma Vale and is in Six Mile Bridge, so maybe it is the name of a house.

Re: British Newspaper Archive launched today
I have subscribed. Have found some references to my Stenson line. My wifes family history is predominately English so I might turn up info of use in that regard.
I enjoy looking at old newspapers for general historical stories.
Trove here in Australia is free and that has been very useful for me.

Re: Stenson and Gurnell, Sixmilebridge County Clare
Hi Sharon, I know of some members of the Stenson family that went to either the USA or Canada. Vere Hunt STENSON went to USA for a few years then returned to Limerick. After the death of his first wife, Margaret Hanrahan in 1884 he remarried Maria MOORE in Dublin in 1888 All three children from that...

Re: Stenson and Gurnell, Sixmilebridge County Clare
Paddy,
thanks for that, Maria Stenson (nee Webb) would be my great great grandmother.
I just had a look down Cecil Street on google street view. Couldn't find no. 45 but the Limerick Anthanaeum has plenty of history attached to it.

Re: A comprehensive listing of Clare emigrants - new project
This is what fascinates me about the emigrants is how did they choose where to go. Obviously the majority went to North America that being the closest but what would have enticed someone to get on ship and spend months at sea braving the roaring forties to come to South Australia. How did they sell ...
