Re: Coming of the Clare Champion

Claire Santry, of Irish Genealogy News https://www.irishgenealogynews.com/ has advised that the first batch of the Clare Champion (covering the period 1950-2012) is now available on the Irish News Archive https://www.irishnewsarchive.com/ This should keep me out of mischief for a while, and looking ...

Re: From Clare to the wilds of Victoria

Hi Sheila
Yes I agree about that Dorcas entry. There is no way known that I would have interpreted it as Dorcas.
But according to
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Dorcas
there are numerous versions, including Darcey.
Makes me wonder in what source the "Dorcas" version originated in this case.

From Clare to the wilds of Victoria

The "Clare relevant" collection from 60 issues of The Irish Link which are being progressively provided by the Local Studies Centre should prove to be a rich source of info especially for OZ and NZ researchers. https://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/don_tran/emigration/irish_link.htm Th...

RC Marriage Records for SW Clare

Well done to Janice Kent-Mackenzie on this compilation of SW Clare marriage records. https://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/don_tran/bmd/rc_marriage_records_sw_clare.htm I suggest that Kilfiddane Parish could be included even with its short record period (12 years). Also I was a little ...

Re: The Land League in Clare

Hi Matthew & Sheila It is interesting to look at the numbers of the rent reductions awarded in 1882, for instance: Return of judicial rents fixed by Sub-Commissions and Civil Bill Courts, notified to Irish Land Commission, April-May 1882 https://www.dippam.ac.uk/eppi/documents/17147/pages/455933 In ...

Re: Five Co. Clare pubs mentioned in 2003

A similar Bona Fides law applied in the state of Victoria (Aust) during most of the 20th Century, and I remember taking advantage of it myself on at least one occasion in my youthful days.

Coming of the Clare Champion

My reader's card with the Queensland State Library allows me free access to the Irish Newspaper Archive, so I am looking forward to the imminent inclusion of the Clare Champion into the database, as notified today by Claire Santry.

"Bring out the lace curtains and call McInerney; I'm nearing the end of my lifes pleasant journey. Send quick for the priest, just tell him I'm dying my last minutes on earth so swiftly are flying. Tell dear Father Dorney I'm meeting my maker (He's losing his old collection up taker.) Then pull dow...

The McInerneys of Clenagh - a merchant family

Daniel McInerney(1869-1960) was born in Clenagh, near Newmarket-on-Fergus, the youngest surviving in a family of fifteen, although at least four of his siblings died in infancy. In the 1901 Census, we find that Daniel had set up business as a flour merchant with his older brother Patrick in Cornmark...

Re: Bugler/Ryan/Mcinerney.

Hi Hack Usually the best chance of finding the previous generation is from the father of the bride on the civil marriage record. Unfortunately in this case it appears that both McInerney sisters were married prior to 1864. Refer birth of Mary Costelloe 17 Dec 1864, and Catherine Ryan 29 Sep 1866. Th...

Old Inagh Graveyard - transcriptions and photos

I should draw attention to a recent addition to the IGP website which sees the completion of transcriptions and photos of headstones in the Old Inagh Graveyard, by contributors Michael O'Loughlin & Marianne McGough. http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/clare/photos/tombstones/inagh/inaghndx.htm I ...
