skyirish, What is your real name and where are you from? This is from my transcription of the second marriage register filmed by FHLC and now posted to Clare Library website at: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/don_tran/bmd/transcription_registers_marriages_scariff_moynoe_rc_2.htm ...

Re: Irish Passport Archives

Hi, I have been helping an Irish friend (a priest in Dublin) with his USA family. I chased the family down fairly well and had big issues with not being able to find them in the 1920 US Census. (During the 1920 census this couple went to Ireland.) Eventually, I found the wife's passport online at An...

Re: John Purcell Born 1856

Hi Sharon,

Lucille made the post regarding the lecture:
"I attended a lecture last year by their archivist Harriet Wheelock who seemed both knowledgeable and approachable so I might get some more background information on medical information."

Thanks,

Re: John Purcell Born 1856

Hi Barry, Since yours was born in 1856, this is unlikely him except in the off chance a transcriber error changed 1866 to 1856. In any event here is a John PURCELL baptism record in Feakle in 1866. Maybe a relation. 15 SEP 1866 John Son Ned Purcell & Ellen Molony Matt & Margy Molony A. Connellan

Re: Minimum age for Godparents

I believe the rule was not to be able to financial support the child, but to be able to overlook the child's religious upbringing, to make sure the child was raised as a properly, practicing Catholic. I will ask a priest or two I know. I suspect that like anything, some priest are more flexible than...

Re: Horse Thief

Hi Julie, I do not believe that would be true as the law in Ireland was based on English law and I have never seen anything of the kind appear in any newspapers I have read. I would not completely dismiss this idea though as it may have depended on the period. I have read one account of a child (you...

Re: GLENOMERA ESTATE in Ballyquin, County Clare

Hi, I'm not sure this is relevant, definitely not relevant to your question, but have come across a marriage where residence of Groom is mentioned as "GLENOMORA." I was unable to locate any town or townland of this name, so had just chalked it up to bad writing. Here is the marriage info: At Scariff...

Re: Two male witnesses at Wedding

Hi Darren, I just finished transcribing Scariff Marriages (316) and yes, common to have two male or two female witnesses. In one case I found one male and two female witnesses recorded. I will put all of the unusual ones here: Marriages of: - Michl White to Anne Minogue (23 APR 1855) w/witnesses Joh...

Awesome page, thank you much Paddy. I've found my Grandfather's cousin whose house was burned along with 3 others in Laccaroe Townland. It is the first bit of substance to my cousin's story that her Father Daniel Mac's house was burned and he was taken to Ballykinlar for a year. Daniel Mac's Sister ...

Hi Paddy, A nice treatment by you. Mainly I wanted to comment on the volume number table you presented from the CIGO (?) publication. I started to reply on this but realized I wanted to do a few checks first. I have some BDM records transcribed (45 births, 17 deaths, 20 marriages) to check against. ...

Re: New facebook group for Clare genealogy

Hi Paddy, While the Facebook site is interesting for connecting, there is nothing better than this site. Here are some of the aspects to compare: - Posts disappear (age out) on Facebook but not here. - One cousin I found there did not reply. Either they were not interested in finding relations or th...

Hi, Thanks for the offer. Please send any CLEARYs or CONWAYs you have. My Grt-Grandfather Michael Cleary is buried there and that photo is online here at the library site. He died in 1921. I was told his wife Mary CONWAY refused to be buried next to her hubby because of the rats. It would be interes...

Hi Paddy, Yes, that link shows the exact CD I purchased when it went on sale. It is images of the first edition book in a PDF and very useful. Here and there the images are not perfect but still very useful. The second edition book is very expensive and if you have the first edition book or this CD,...
