Re: Scariff - Monahan

The 1901 Census shows that there were two Michael Minogues in Fossabeg in 1901 - one was about 34 and the other was about 12 years old. The 34 year old was my relative living with his 70 year old mother in house No. 4. While I accept the possibility of a precocious 12 year old, it seems slightly mor...

Re: Scariff - Monahan

Shelia - I saw the Michael Minogue who you mention dying in 1950 but haven't been able to nail down that person as my great-uncle. The informant on the document I saw appears to be an employee or official of the hospital rather than family or neighbor. Michael was the informant on his mother's death...

Re: Scariff - Monahan

I return to this post to share the results and failures of my research efforts. While I am satisfied with my efforts to nail down my grandfather and his parents, I have not been able to find out what happened to my great-aunts Bridget and Annie, or my great-uncle Michael Minogue, who stayed on the f...

Re: Griffiths - Census

Shelia:

Thanks for the osi suggestion. I had been to the askaboutireland site. I also use Google Earth to take a look at the parcel. The outline is pretty much the same as is shown on the Griffiths maps and the osi map. Thanks again.

Griffiths - Census

Is there way to relate a parcel described in Griffiths to a dwelling described in the 1901 and 1911 Census? For example, Edmond Minogue appears in Griffiths as leasing land at Fossa Beg having a map reference of 26. The 1901 and 1911 census report that his widow, Ellen, was living at Fossa Beg. Thus...

Re: Scariff - Monahan

This morning - 0900 hours local time - I received a telephone message from Antoinette O'Brien of the Clare Heritage Center saying that she had found birth information for my grandfather, Edward, and his brother, Michael, and sister, Annie. During our subsequent telephone conversation Ms. O'Brien gen...

Paddy:

Would it have made a difference to CHC that I only had Ed's information in 2000? I did not learn about the Flannery connection until 2005, more or less, and the rest of the information only recently.

Re: Scariff - Monahan

I agree that my post lacked important information. So here is what I have: 1. The CHC report I mentioned was from 2000. 2. Grandfather, Edward Francis Monaghan, aka Edmond, Edmund; b. 20 Nov. 1866, County Clare; d. 30 Jan 1933, Rhode Island, USA. First arrived in USA in June 1882 at Boston per his n...

Scariff - Monahan

Several years ago the Clare Heritage Center sent me a report stating, more or less, that there was no factual basis supporting the family story that the Monahans of Central Falls, Rhode Island, came from Scariff, Clare, Ireland. Since then, I found: 1. My Grandfather, Edward F. Monaghan's naturaliza...
