Re: Patrick Carmody of SW Clare and Waterford

I have stumbled across another similar biography of Patrick Carmody in the Waldron archives, also by Padraig Ó Macháin, but as Gaeilge. It is Aguisín 5 on pp.137-144 of this book: Title Amhráin agus dánta Authors Riobard Bheldon, Pádraig Ó Macháin Publisher Poodle Press, 1995 ISBN 0952426013, 978095...

Re: Calendar of Wills Search Help, Please

For a few tricks, see http://www.cigo.ie/httpwww.cigo.iewills.html I prefer to search by just editing this URL, which returns hits 100-per-page: http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/search/cwa/results.jsp?deceasedSurname=&deceasedForename=&placeDeath=&search=Search&pageSize=100&beneficiarySu...

Re: Look up of baptism of Michael Russell of Kilrush (1894-1

That's great, Justin. It might also be worth visiting the Sandfield Centre in Ennis where the civil registers of births are kept and asking the staff there to go through the Kilrush book for 1894 in case there is a Michael with mother Anne Russell registered under his father's surname. The indexes h...

LEC Rental of the Life Estate of F. N. Keane Esq.

Several regular members of this forum will be interested in the rental of the Keane Estate which was sold by auction in the Landed Estates Court on 2 Mar 1866. Thomas Pilkington, assignee, must have been Francis Nathaniel Keane's nephew of that name. Marcus Keane, petitioner, was his infamous brothe...

Re: niece/nephew = grandchild ?

Here's another example (Marrinan and Quill) of a granddaughter described as a niece in the 1901 census: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Clare/Cooraclare/Kilmacduane_West/1080706/ The ages in 1901 (uncle 62, niece 3) are just about plausible, but the uncle then aged to 92 in 1911: ht...

Re: niece/nephew = grandchild ?

I've just come across another household with a suspiciously large 64-year age gap between an aunt and her niece: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Clare/Clooncoorha/Moyadda_Beg/1081392/ This prompted me to do a little more research and I learned that in several languages there is no d...

There was another Michael Russell born not far from Kilrush, at Cree, on 16 Dec 1896. See his Bureau of Military History Witness Statement.
