Re: OpenStreetMap of Clare
Yes, I do want to post up what I saw and learned. The best way I can think of is to go at it one well at a time. This isn't going to happen instantly... I'll be sending photographs to Maureen Comber to use on the website, too, as they get organized. While there I wrote this to a friend in London: "I...

Re: OpenStreetMap of Clare
Hi, I'm back in the US now after a couple of weeks in Clare. We did lots of field work re. holy wells, I had a Garmin NUVI and my husband had his I-phone, we were cutting-edge tech ! I will look into uploading to OSM. The OS maps on the library website proved more accurate than the current Discovery...

can you name this well?
Last night I sent a message to Maureen Comber, library webmaster, with photos that I can't upload here (the files are too big) of a well I visited last September. The well is under a big tree in a field between Craggaunboy and Carrowduff. It's marked on Discovery series map 57, the square bounded by...

Re: Holy wells of County Clare
this is a copy of a message I just sent to the Clare County Library e-mail address. Photos are not attached here, I don't want to be that much of a pest, I've been consolidating the material I have on the Holy Wells of County Clare, (preparing for a visit there soon, from the US) I've attached here...

Re: Irish and Clare history book recommendations
some progress... I've finished Robert Kee's book, which I found helpful and informative on 20th Century events, but rather irritatingly given to adverbs! Also it seemed to me that while trying to appear impartial he had a few blind spots. Not to go into that here... Started the "Oxford History" but ...

Re: well disappearances
Aren't there stories in the lore of wells about wells that take offense when some heedless soul does their laundry in them or commits some other sort of trangression, that then disappear entirely, or move across the road, or to another field? I wouldn't put it past them. A couple of years ago I visi...

Re: Holy wells of County Clare
oh good! thank you Clare Admin for splitting off this thread. I'm wondering how to access the articles mentioned by M. McNamara.. if "the Other Clare" isn't available online, is it in the Library in Ennis? I'll be there in a few weeks' time and can do some hands-on research then. The photos - they a...

Re: Irish and Clare history book recommendations
Many thanks for all this response! I have lots of homework to do now! Seriously, it's very helpful to have this guidance. I'll start with what general references I can obtain most easily - a neighbor of mine has quite a library of Irish material, I'm told. I have been working with Clare material fro...

Irish and Clare history book recommendations
I recently joined this forum and am thrilled to be in the company of you masterminds! I'm in the US, a granddaughter of Clare, working on a study and pilgrimage of Wells. It would be a help to me if you who are reading this could give a recommendation for a good basic general Irish History book. Or ...
