Re: DROMORE
Dromore is in Ruan parish. Is it being confused with Drumandoora in Feakle by the enquirer in this case?

Re: "Glannamanagh" in 1890 ad seeking Kierce
Glennamanagh is the old name for the modern parishes of Abbey & Oughtmama, which at one time formed a single rectory (parish) under the Cistercian monks of Corcomroe abbey. The name derives from the Gaelic Gleann Na Manaigh (Glen of the Monks).

Re: Kilcross Connections
It would seem that in this discourse Neylons of Knockroe, Kilfenora and their namesakes in Knockroe, Kilkeedy (Tubber) are sometimes getting confused, resulting in misleading conclusions as to certain relationships.

Re: Irish and Clare history book recommendations
For the general study of Holy Wells, the following are recommended: (1) Sacred Waters by Janet & Colin Bord (London 1985); (2) Celtic Saints in their Landscape by Elizabeth Rees (Gloucestershire 2001); (3) In Search of Ireland's Holy Wells by Elizabeth Healy (Dublin, 2001); (4) The Rites of Brigid G...

In the 1911 Census you will find Catherine Kennedy(58 yrs) her three daughters, aged 14-29 & a son, James (26) at No. 9 Church Street, Ennistymon.
Don't know if this is of help. See the link to the Census under GENEALOGY in the library website.

Re: Conntae an Chláir a triocha agus a tuatha
Seán Ó hÓgáin's Conntae An Chláir is a most useful and reliable source for the ancient territorial divisions of Co.Clare, the Triocha Céts and baronies. There is also much material on the parochial divisions and the source material for their study, and some very informative maps. There is also an ex...

Re: Eliza Eagar née Foley (c1831-1917) matron, Corofin Workh
Patrick Foley, who was Master of the Corofin PLU Workhouse, was probably a native of Kilrush as he had previously been i/c of the auxiliary house at Leadmore, near that town. He was appointed to Corofin c. 1851 following the forced resignation of Wm. Fitzgerald, the first master there. Foley himself...

Re: need help with parishes and workhouse boundaries
Two possibilities suggest themselves here. "Killarney" may very well have been a phonetic attempt at either Kilclaran or Killanena. Both of these townlands are in the parish of Feakle, Co.Clare. And both were in the Poor Law Union of Scarriff until 1850 when Killanena was transferred to the newly-fo...

The most obvious place to seek the information you require is the Clare Heritage & Genealogy centre, Corofin, Co.Clare http://www.clareheritage.com; email clareheritage@eircom.net. Computerised extracts from all Register of Births, marriages & Death for Co.Clare are available there and these are cro...

Re: Tarsnane/Tarsenane/Tarsone Family
The name Tarsnane, which is almost exclusively confined to West Clare, is a corrupt rendering of the surname Sexton from the Irish version of that name i.e. Ó tSeasnáin . And this accounts for its prevalence in the Miltown-malbay district where the name Sexton is dominant. From tSeasnáin it was but ...
