Hickman origins
The first recorded Hickman in county Clare was Gregory of Barntic, and English settler who was robbed of his manifold possessions in the uprising of 1641. Where did he come from and how did he get to co Clare? Burke says that he was the third son of Walter Hickman of Kew, Surrey, but this is almost ...

Re: The Granahan Hunt
Here is a link to an online version of the RSAI article noted by Sharon. It's the best source I've found so far for the 18th century Colpoys family. George Colpoys, high sheriff in 1771, his wife Mary Casey, and his sister, "the beautiful Molley" all figure in The Granahan Hunt. http://books.google....

Re: Fitzgerald of Carigoran
Thanks for all the suggestions Sharon. Lodge's Peerage, James Graves's Unpublished Geraldine Documents and the estate papers of the earls of Kildare may provide some answers, but none are very accessible. They are now on my to-do list. The Fitzgeralds of Carrigoran, descendants of John who married E...

Colpoys of Ballycar
Mary Colpoys, called "the beautiful Molly" by Nicholas Woulfe in a poem of 1758 called The Granahan Hunt, married James Fitzgerald of Shepperton, a scion of the Fitzgeralds of Carrigoran. James's mother was also a Colpoys, Alice, daughter of George Colpoys of Ballycar, sheriff of county Clare in 171...

Re: Fitzgerald of Carigoran
That's a useful link Sharon, but you put Clare when you meant Limerick. Ferrar's book is the History of Limerick, Ecclesiastical, Civil and Military. I'm very interested in the Fitzgeralds of Carigoran/Carrigoran, but can't get back from the Captain Edward, who is said to have saved Charles I's life...
