Thanks Sheila, this is great work. I particularly like being able to search by townland, which is very useful, given the idiosyncratic spelling of some surnames by the priests!

Hi scleyden Griffith’s Valuation shows a Catherine McMahon as the lessor in Bunnanagat North (to James Griffy and Thomas Kishane). Was she related to Nicholas, I wonder? There’s also a Catherine McMahon who is lessor in Ballyharraghan, in Ruan parish. Are they one and the same? But to return to Pat...

Hi Sheila, I'm a direct descendant of the above-mentioned Nicholas McMahon and Thomas Carkill. I don't think Patrick was Margaret McMahon (Carkill)'s brother. She was originally from Dysert (Ruan) and as far as I know she did not have siblings called Bridget or Patrick. Nicholas had a brother Patric...

Hi Sharon, "Red Bridge", or Drehidderg, is on the Ballymacdonnell river north of Doon, marking the boundary between Killavoy (O'C Mills) and Claremount (Broadford). It's still referred to as the Red Bridge locally. It is not Woodfield Bridge, which is SW of Doon. 1842 map shows it here as Drehidderg...
