Parish register look-up: marriage of Patrick and Kate Cahill

Dear Forum members, I was hoping someone might please help me with a look-up of the parish registers of the Catholic Parish of Parteen-Meelick in Co Clare for the period 1911 to 1916. The reason for the request is that I have not been able to find any record of the marriage of my great-grandparents ...

Re: Planning a visit to Clare - a vade mecum

I respectfully offer some notes on Paddy’s useful guide, after doing family history research in Co Clare in 2000 and 2014. It is from the perspective of someone coming from Sydney who is not a professional family historian, so please forgive anything unintended. Preliminary 1. I would respectfully h...

Re: Look up of baptism of Michael Russell of Kilrush (1894-1

Hi, This has been solved: Michael Russell was born on 22 Aug 1894 and baptised at Kilrush on 31 August 1894. He is, as Paddy predicted, the Michael Russell who was the son of Anne, and so not the one from the family mentioned in the 1901 and 1911 census returns. I cannot find Anne or Michael in the ...

McMahons, Hennessys, Killeens, Cahills, and Lawlors

Hi, I’ve written a short account of my Clare family history, Five Clare Families , which I'll be publishing soon as a free ebook. I’ve benefitted greatly from the material collected on the County Clare Library website and the assistance of several members of this Forum and so thought I would post th...

Re: Look up of baptism of Michael Russell of Kilrush (1894-1

Dear Miriam and Paddy, Many thanks to you both for your help: it is most kind. I hope you or someone you know will put me to work one day on the records here in Sydney. I'm not on facebook, but have seen the discussion you mention there about the Russells and the houses in Shellshock. John Keane is ...

Look up of baptism of Michael Russell of Kilrush (1894-1962)

Dear All, I was wondering if I could please (again) impose on the generosity of the members of this Forum for assistance in finding the record of the baptism of Michael Russell, a relative of my grandmother’s. Michael’s birth was not registered, but information provided by relations notes he was bap...

Tours of Dromoland Castle ?

Hi, I will be in south-west Co. Clare in October for a wedding and would like to visit Dromoland Castle (near Newmarket-on-Fergus) as my great-great-gandparents worked there in the early 1900s. It's now a hotel/conference centre and golf course. Does anyone know if guided tours are available without...

Look up in Clare Champion: Death of John Hennessy in 1967

Dear All, My great-great uncle, John Hennessy lived at Ballinacragga, Newmarket-on-Fergus. Sadly, he was killed when he was hit by a drunken driver in 1967. I have a copy of John’s Mass Card, which I attach for the Library’s collections. I understand there is a report of the incident in the Clare Ch...
