A belated reply. Marriage Licences appear to have been still in use up to 1866 for the Diocese of Cloyne (North and East Cork) according to the volumes of indexes in the National Archives. It is one I use regularly.

Maybe Grandmother Carrigg was Mary Anne's mother-in-law, one of the two Bridgets, as Thomas (born New Year 1844) would have been a first cousin of, and older than, Mary Anne and John's children. For those not used to Irish research, something that applies to all parishes everywhere in the country : most people did not keep their own records with the result that they did not know how old they were.
