Re: Master Hugh Brady of Ruan National School, b.ca.1844, d.

Thanks for your report on the information regarding the baptismal registry. Do you have a source for this information? I was unaware of the presence of John in the family. My sense is that Jeremy and John Brady died at a young age as I have no record of these two beyond their baptism. Thank you also...

Re: Master Hugh Brady of Ruan National School, b.ca.1844, d.

Thanks, 1899 seems like it would be Master Hugh. I think there is already a number of Hehir and related obituaries in the County Clare Library Forum. The Hehir's I am referring to are uncles of the Gaelic football broadcaster Michael...they reverted their name to O'Hehir and Hugh's sister Ellen marr...

Re: Master Hugh Brady of Ruan National School, b.ca.1844, d.

Thank you for sharing the obituary of George Taaffe. Do you have a date of the obituary? It certainly appears to be Master Hugh. There were a number of mourners from Ruan. Did George have any relationship with the Ruan National School? A brother-in-law and another mourner were of the Hehir family, o...

Re: Master Hugh Brady of Ruan National School, b.ca.1844, d.

I read the "memorial of Thady Brady" and I could not but chuckle as I read it. It reminded me of what happens at the "Texas Board of Education" textbook review in the United States every year. Leave it to an Irishman like Thady to accurately emote what it feels like to be "in a pickle". Something te...

Re: Master Hugh Brady of Ruan National School, b.ca.1844, d.

In researching the Brady family further, I have discovered that John Beauchamp Brady purchased property in Kilchreest and Kildysart in the 1840's, from the Clive estates. Could this be the Paradise Hill region where Hugh Brady's family lived? John Beauchamp Brady was the son of Henry Brady and Sarah...

Re: Master Hugh Brady of Ruan National School, b.ca.1844, d.

Margaret: The Bradys of Paradise Hill appear in the Griffith's valuation of the 1850's at that site, but do not appear in the 1825 Clare applotments. It seems that Hugh Sr was the first to have land in that area. Now, I know that the Ruan Master was Catholic because he was instrumental in the vocati...

Re: Master Hugh Brady of Ruan National School, b.ca.1844, d.

Thank you. I have the copy of a letter from a member of the Brady family in Paradise, dated 1957, which connects Katherine Guinane to Edward Brady, Master Hugh's brother (or step- brother?) and the O'Hehir's. It is from a combination of the 1901, 1911 and Kilchreest gravestone (Sec. D) data that I h...

Re: Latchford/ Guinane connection

Thank you for posting a reply. I am sorry for the incorrect date of emigration listed for the 2 Latchford cousins, Francis and John D; The correct dates are 1835-39. Approximately 5 Latchfords appear in the 1825 applotment registry for Kilchreest. Three Johns, one William and one Francis. I am sure ...

Latchford/ Guinane connection

Thomas Southwell introduced German Palatine families in the Courtmatrix, Killeheen, Ballingrane, and Pallas(kenry) region of Rathkeale. There appears to be a location "the Square John Latchford" in that city (www.rathkealeonline.ie/history.html). Latchford appears to be a German Palatine surname (ep...

Re: Master Hugh Brady of Ruan National School, b.ca.1844, d.

There is an obituary at County Clare Library that states that Hugh O'Hehir, whose father was James Hehir moved to Dublin where he was active in Irish independence and politics. In the obituary is the remark that Hugh was "a big overgrown boy for his age" and that he attended school in Ruan with his ...

Re: Master Hugh Brady of Ruan National School, b.ca.1844, d.

Hugh Brady, the subject of this forum, appears to have had a brother and a sister, Edmond and Ellen. Hugh remained a bachelor his whole life and dedicated that life to his students, some of whom were in the Brady and Hehir family. Certainly, the next generation's commitment to the Gaelic movement an...
