Re: Edward O'Shaughnessy's photos of Vandeleur Kilrush evict
For those interested in the evictions on the Vandeleur Estate July-August 1888 try to get a copy of The Other Clare, summer issue 2015. I understand it will be available for purchase by the end of July 2015. In that issue you will find an article titled "Photographing the evictions on the Vandeleur ...

Patrick Spellissy eviction Kilrush July 1888
Are there descendants of Pat Spellissy who read this forum? Pat and his family were evicted from their home on the Vandeleur estate in July 1888. They were photographed outside immediately after eviction with their possessions piled up next to them. My great grandfather, an American visitor from New...

Re: Edward O'Shaughnessy's photos of Vandeleur Kilrush evict
My great grandfather's title is likely a social one. I have investigated it from several angles and have concluded it was likely given to him by friends because he fit the image of Major Fergus O'Shaughnessy, a pulp fiction character who was quite popular in New York City from the 1850s through the ...

Re: Edward O'Shaughnessy's photos of Vandeleur Kilrush evict
My great grandfather, Major E. J. O'Shaughnessy, his wife Margaretta Dunn O'Shaughnessy, and her sister Ellen Dunn, were witnesses to the evictions on the Vandeleur Estate in July 1888. My great grandfather wrote of his observations and opinions to friends and associates in New York City, and very l...

Finucane - O'Shaughnessy family in Clare 19th C
My great great grandparents, Ellen Finucane & John O'Shaughnessy lived in Clare, probably at one time in the township of Coolmeen. John was a tailor. Ellen and her 5 sons emigrated to Montreal ca 1847. We do not know what happened to John. anyone have any leads, direction to give us?

Re: looking for O'Shaughneesy, Finucane roots
Opps. I see I'm getting my ancestors confused. John O'Shaughnessy, the tailor in Clare, was my great great grandfather. My great grandfather, Edward, was the one who visited Clare in 1888.

Re: looking for O'Shaughneesy, Finucane roots
Could be. Great grandfather John O'Shaughnessy was definitely a tailor in Clare in the early-to-mid 19th Century. Of his six sons who emigrated to Montreal, Canada, three were tailors. One grandson was a tailor.

Re: looking for O'Shaughneesy, Finucane roots
I do know about the evictions, and have seen what the clare library has. I am also trying to get the book written by Noel Mulqueen in 1988 about that event. My grandfather was quite shocked by what he saw, and, as an indication he recognized this as a significant historical event, he managed to get ...

Re: looking for O'Shaughnessy, Finucane roots
Thank you for your response to my question about O'Shaughnessy-Finuncane family relationships. Killofin and Kilfiddane are neighbors, so the information my great grandfather brought back appears accurate. Since these families were large in 1901, and the heads of both households were farmers in their...

looking for O'Shaughneesy, Finucane roots
I am trying to find information on my Clare ancestors. The family names are O'Shaughnessy and Finucane. John O'Shaughnessy married Ellen Finucane. We have estimates of Ellen's years of life as 1808-1869. She died in Montreal, Canada. John was a tailor by trade. We don't know what happened to John. W...
