Hi Susan, There is one James Donnellan birth registered in Ennistimon in June 1888, showing in the Civil Registration Index. Re: Kinane Ancestry
Do you have any further information on your grandfather, Michael Kinane? Depending on where he lived, a marriage or death certificate may give some details on his fathers name or mothers maiden name. That might be your best starting point if you haven't already done so. Also, what did he name his el...

Re: Hogan research - Emancipated Minor
Do you know the name of his father? That would be a starting point - you could then locate his death in the civil registration index, and that will narrow down your time frame considerably. Then a search of the newspapers of the time may reveal reports of court proceedings. It sounds like a fascinat...

Re: Pilkingtons and Keanes of Gower Hall during the Great Fa
Sadly, no, I don't really know anything further. According to Charlotte Keane's diary, Francis Nathaniel Keane and his family were living at the Square, Kilrush, during the 1830's and early 1840's. She describes frequent visits to them, including a visit in 1839 for the christening of Francis' son C...

mystery woman
This photo was among a collection of old family pics, but was unidentified. Wondering if anyone can give me any help in identifying a likely time period for this photo, based on clothing style? Or at a very long shot, does anyone recognise her?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: West Clare places
Thanks Paddy! That certainly helps. I am writing up some notes to accompany the diary, and it's good to be able to give descriptions for places & people he mentions. Having studied the map, I am inclined to think that his reference to Cahircrahine mountain may in fact more likely be Cahercroghaun mo...

West Clare places
The following locations are mentioned in my Great Uncle Fred's diary from 1904 / 1905. Is anyone with local knowledge able to give me any further info on what and where these places are please? They are all within walking or cycling distance (by the standards of 100 years ago) from Kiltrellig, and I...

Re: Clare Journal and Ennis Advertiser
Hi Susan, This will probably not be of help to you in America, but may be of benefit to others who have the same query. The National Library of Australia holds microfilm copies of Clare Journal newspaper. I was able to borrow some of the films on inter-library loan through my local regional library,...

Re: Arranged Marriages in Ireland
In 1815 & 1821 my 2x great grandaunts (sisters) married 2 brothers. In addition, the brides' mother and the grooms' mother were sisters, making the couples double first-cousins. In the next generation, I also have 2 sisters marrying 2 brothers, but this time unrelated, although the grooms' sister al...

more Pilkington Burke connections
Posted this as new topic as I don't think it is relevant to Paddy's post re gravestone inscription , but may be beneficial to others searching same names. From letter from my great-uncle Francis Pilkington in Ireland to his brother Fred Pilkington in Australia dated April 1897: “We buried poor Long ...

Re: Irish emigrants to Argentina
www.argbrit.org is another site 'British Settlers in Argentina & Uraguay',containing cemetery records and information from records of St. Johns (Anglican) Cathedral in Buenos Aires & more. Not Irish specific, but surname search could bring up useful results.
